The Presidents Cup teams are set.
And because this is golf, everybody immediately did the most golf thing imaginable:
Started arguing about who got screwed.
U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker used his six picks on Chris Gotterup, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Jacob Bridgeman and 21-year-old Jackson Koivun. They'll join Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa at Medinah later this month.
Most of those picks?
Hard to argue.
One of them?
Well...
Ben Griffin, Please Pick Up the Courtesy Phone
If we're handing out the GRIPIT GOLF “You Got Hosed” Award, we're giving it to Ben Griffin.
Griffin finished 8th in the U.S. points standings.
Eight.
There are twelve guys on the team.
You don't need Scottie Scheffler's math skills to understand why Griffin might be sitting at home wondering what else he was supposed to do.
And it gets spicier.
Griffin was on the 2025 Ryder Cup team, but Snedeker ultimately went another direction for Medinah. J.J. Spaun—10th in the points standings and another 2025 Ryder Cupper—was also left home, although Spaun's recent shoulder issue certainly complicates that one.
Then There's Jackson Koivun
This is where it gets interesting.
Koivun is 21 years old, only recently turned pro, won the 3M Open and clearly has future American golf star written all over him.
He's also the guy Snedeker selected despite being outside the top 25 in Presidents Cup points.
Do we hate the pick?
Actually...
No.
It's bold. It's interesting. And team golf isn't supposed to be a spreadsheet where you simply take players 1 through 12 and head to the first tee.
Captain's picks exist for a reason.
But if you're Ben Griffin?
You're absolutely allowed to throw something.
Preferably not a Scotty Cameron.
Ryan Gerard Has a Case, Too
Gerard finished 16th in points but came into selection week hot, including a solo third at the Tour Championship. He even planned to continue playing in Europe specifically so he'd remain sharp if Snedeker called.
The phone didn't ring.
That's brutal.
But we're still putting Griffin at the top of the GRIPIT snub leaderboard.
The International Side Had Its Own Victims
Geoff Ogilvy selected Corey Conners, Nico Echavarria, Sungjae Im, Ryo Hisatsune, Nick Taylor and Christiaan Bezuidenhout.
The interesting one there is Bezuidenhout.
He finished 18th in International points, but Ogilvy clearly valued his Presidents Cup experience and 3-1-1 career record in the event. Meanwhile, Jason Day—11th in International standings—was left out, though recent back problems and poor form likely played a role.
Again:
Captain's pick.
Not accountant's pick.
We get it.
The Official GRIPIT Verdict
Snedeker didn't pick a bad team.
Far from it.
The Americans are loaded and will arrive at Medinah trying to extend a ridiculous run of dominance—the U.S. owns a 13-1-1 all-time Presidents Cup record.
But somebody always gets left standing on the first tee.
This year, our vote is:
🥇 Ben Griffin — ROBBED
🥈 Ryan Gerard — Definitely has a case
🥉 J.J. Spaun — Robbed-ish, pending shoulder examination
And Jackson Koivun?
We're rooting for the kid.
Because nothing would be more golf than spending three weeks arguing that he shouldn't be there...
...only to watch him go 4-0.
